It’s time for some multi-Doctor goodness! Doctor Who – Time Lord Victorious: All Flesh is Grass is a brand new novel in which the Eighth Doctor, Ninth Doctor and Tenth Doctor cross paths. “Fantastic!”
Written by Una McCormack, this new Time Lord Victorious adventure promises to continue the plot threads established by its predecessors. Here’s the official synopsis for ‘All Flesh is Grass.’
Even a Time Lord can’t change the past. A wasteland. A dead world…
No, there is a biodome rising from the ashes. Here, life teems and flourishes, with strange, lush plants and many-winged insects with bright carapaces – and one solitary sentient creature, who spends its days talking to the insects and tending this lonely garden. This is Inyit, the Last of the Kotturuh.
In ‘All Flesh is Grass’ we are transported back to The Dark Times. The Tenth Doctor has sworn to stop the Kotturuh, ending death and bringing life to the universe. But his plan is unravelling – instead of bringing life, nothing has changed and all around him people are dying. Death is everywhere. Now he must confront his former selves – one in league with their greatest nemesis and the other manning a ship of the undead.
Now the Kotturuh – you might remember – first featured in ‘The Knight, the Fool and the Dead,’ and are the bringers of death in the earliest days of the universe. (They basically get to decide how long each new species should live.) They also featured in ‘Lesser Evils,’ which was one of the Time Lord Victorious short trips, narrated by Jon Culshaw.
So, on paper, it sounds like the last surviving Kotturuh could be the main antagonist in ‘All Flesh is Grass.’ That is, until you spot the subtle inclusion of the Daleks on the front cover (you’ll have to look closely, but they’re there.) And earlier in the Time Lord Victorious arc – in ‘The Enemy of my Enemy‘ – the Eighth Doctor was forced into an uneasy alliance with the metal mutants from Skaro, so he’s likely to be the incarnation who’s “in league with their greatest nemesis.”
The Ninth Doctor, presumably, will be manning the ship of the undead. Lovely.
As for what other secrets ‘All Flesh is Grass’ contains, we’ll have to wait and see. I’m sure this will be an epic adventure, though. For one thing, it’s penned by Una McCormack, whose own writing history spans Blake’s 7, Doctor Who and Star Trek – to name a few.
But you may find yourself torn. ‘All Flesh is Grass’ is due out on the 10th December, which is the same date as the other Time Lord Victorious tale ‘Genetics of the Daleks,’ and a day after the Eighth Doctor adventure ‘Mutually Assured Destruction.’ So be sure to clear the diary.
