‘Genetics of the Daleks’ pits the Fourth Doctor against the metal mutants from Skaro in this brand new Time Lord Victorious adventure.
Now, if you’ve not been following the Time Lord Victorious thread so far, fear not. The story arc has been designed so that people can on-board at any point, and still have a vague understanding of what’s happening. Which is good.
And this particular story sees the return of the dreaded Daleks, who previously cropped up in ‘The Enemy of My Enemy‘ and in their very own animated spin-off series. Here’s the official synopsis for ‘Genetics of the Daleks’:
There are 10,000 humans in stasis aboard Starship Future. Ten thousand humans expecting to wake up on a distant planet, their new home. But twenty years into their journey, Starship Future takes on board fuel – and something else. Something that’s been waiting, frozen in space, for a very long time.
Something malevolent.
Something with a plan.
Unless the Doctor can help, it looks like the people of Starship Future have no future at all…
At first glance, ‘Genetics of the Daleks’ has echoes of the classic Doctor Who story ‘The Ark in Space,’ which is no bad thing. I wonder if this was a conscious decision? Certainly, many of Time Lord Victorious tales thus far have drawn on popular elements from the show’s history, including Roger Delgado’s incarnation of the Master, and the ever-popular Tenth Doctor David Tennant, who took centre stage in the novel ‘The Knight, the Fool and the Dead.’
Perhaps most exciting, though, is the return of Tom Baker himself as the Fourth Doctor, who – despite relinquishing the role in 1981 – shows no signs of hanging up his scarf. He’s joined in ‘Genetics of the Daleks’ by Nicholas Briggs (in dual roles as a sole Dalek, and a Dalek mutant) along with Pippa Haywood as Captain Graff, and Joseph Kloska as Pilot Finlay.
In addition, the cover art reveals that this story has been developed “in partnership” with Escape Hunt – the company who produced the Doctor Who escape room ‘A Dalek Awakens,’ which was the first release in the Time Lord Victorious saga. So, presumably, ‘Genetics of the Daleks’ continues this plot thread in some way; indeed the synopsis for ‘A Dalek Awakens’ also mentions a lone Dalek, and a doomed spaceship…
We’re still waiting on a trailer, alas, but if you’re really keen you can pre-order this story on CD or as digital download in time for its release on the 10th December.
