Doctor Who – Time Lord Victorious: Echoes of Extinction sees the Eighth and Tenth Doctors join forces in an epic new adventure. Sort of.
Don’t get me wrong, this new tale in the Time Lord Victorious saga certainly sounds epic. But it’s unclear at this point whether the Eighth Doctor will, indeed, meet his counterpart over the course of the story. That’s because ‘Echoes of Extinction’ is actually two separate (but interlinked) tales, and you can choose the order in which you listen to them.
It’s certainly a nice idea. But whether this means that one half of the story will be solely Eighth Doctor – and the other half solely Tenth – remains to be seen. Although I’d be very surprised if Big Finish passed on the opportunity to unite Paul McGann and David Tennant in some joint Time Lord action.
Anyway, here’s the official synopsis for ‘Echoes of Extinction’…
Trapped, a haunted monster waits to consume new victims. It needs help. It needs a doctor. Unfortunately, it also needs to kill whoever it meets. Thrust into immediate danger, and on the back-foot, it will take all of the Doctor’s ingenuity to triumph.
Two interlinked adventures. Two Doctors. One foe.
Joining the cast of ‘Echoes of Extinction’ is Burn Gorman, better known to Whovians as Torchwood”s Owen Harper, who plays the mysterious Network in this adventure. He’s joined by Arthur Darvill as Cooke (formerly known as Rory Williams, companion to the Eleventh Doctor.) Then there’s voice actor Jacob Dudman, who’s perhaps best known for his Doctor Who impersonations, and indeed is narrating the upcoming Time Lord Victorious adventure ‘The Minds of Magnox.’ He joins this story as the character of Guard, but don’t be fooled by the bland-sounding name. This is Doctor Who after all.
And whilst ‘Echoes of Extinction’ is coming out as a digital download from Big Finish, listeners in the UK have a chance to pick up an early vinyl edition, which will be an exclusive to the supermarket chain ASDA. Both versions are due to be released in April 2021.
Will you be tuning into ‘Echoes of Extinction’ when it launches? And what do you think – will the Eighth Doctor and the Tenth get some scenes together? Let me know in the comments below.
