The Eighth Doctor joins Time Lord Victorious! October sees the release of the first Eighth Doctor audio adventure ‘He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not’ from Big Finish, which is part of the epic, multimedia plot arc set during the Dark Times at the beginning of the universe.
Written by Carrie Thompson, this is a full cast affair starring – of course – Paul McGann as the incumbent Time Lord, along with Silas Carson as the mysterious Brian the Ood, who appears to be a constant presence throughout the Time Lord Victorious story. (He’s on the cover of the new novel ‘The Knight, the Fool and the Dead‘ by Steve Cole, as well as the upcoming Tenth Doctor audiobook ‘The Minds of Magnox.’)
Anyway, here’s how this upcoming Eighth Doctor adventure is described in the official synopsis:
On the desert world of Atharna, the Doctor’s life is about to be changed forever. Looking to visit one of the Seven Hundred Wonders of the Universe, he’s quickly embroiled in a web of deceit. Worse than that, this Wonder of the Universe is missing, and the Doctor is about to encounter one of his most dangerous and duplicitous adversaries. The Doctor is about to meet Brian.
So it’s fair to say that Brian is not your friendly neighbourhood Ood; the words “dangerous,” “duplicitous” and “adversary” don’t sound good for the Eighth Doctor, and in fact Brian is referred to as an “assassin” in the Big Finish trailer.
But for the more seasoned Doctor Who fan, you will know that the Ood aren’t really baddies, per se – apart from the time they were possessed by Satan in ‘The Impossible Planet.’ Which can happen to anyone. So this Ood’s exact role in Time Lord Victorious remains to be seen, but as I say, we can be certain that he’s an important character.
And if you’re chomping at the bit for more Time Lord Victorious goodness, you won’t have long to wait. There are two more audio adventures on their way for the Eighth Doctor in November 2020, with ‘The Enemy of My Enemy’ arriving on the 11th, followed by ‘Echoes of Extinction’ on the 27th. (See our guide to the complete Time Lord Victorious plot arc here.)
Before then, you can join the Eighth Doctor in ‘He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not’ on the 14th October, with the story being made available as a CD and a digital download from the Big Finish website.
