Blake’s 7 ships are hidden in the Doctor Who Season 24 trailer

February 18, 2021 by Alex Skerratt Leave a Comment

There’s a lot to enjoy in the Doctor Who Season 24 trailer, which paves the way for the Blu-ray collection later in the year. Indeed, the Seventh Doctor himself shows up wearing Lovarzi’s own merchandise! But how many of you spotted the Blake’s 7 Easter eggs?

Blake’s 7 – for those of you who don’t know – is a classic BBC SF series devised by the creator of the Daleks, Terry Nation. It is considered by some to share the same universe as Doctor Who – particularly given that the Daleks themselves were originally touted as the villains for the Season B finale, and that Tom Baker and Blake’s 7”s lead actor Gareth Thomas once conspired to shoot a cross-over scene.

And whilst you might not have been on the look-out for Blake’s 7 references in the Doctor Who Season 24 trailer, they are in evidence if you look closely.

First, from about 25 seconds in, you can see the Scorpio already docked at Mel’s space station headquarters…

Then, between 25 and 28 seconds in the Doctor Who Season 24 trailer, you can see a Federation pursuit ship casually cruising through space…

And if you watch the Doctor Who Season 24 trailer right to the very end, you will also see the Civil Administration Ship London parked at Mel’s space station (at around the 6:58 mark.)

Personally, I love the idea of Avon and his crew trying to flog some fake Feldon crystals to Melanie Bush – although I’m not sure how this would fit into Doctor Who Season 24. Perhaps this is an idea for Big Finish to explore…?

In the meantime, check out our other piece on this fascinating trailer: The Seventh Doctor Who shops at Lovarzi.

Doctor Who Season 24 is coming to Blu-ray in 2021.
