Star Trek Discovery: Starfleet Academy United Federation of Planets hat
They say you lose most of your heat through your head. So to keep your family and friends warm through this winter and beyond, you should consider investing in a cosy, knitted hat from the Star Trek shop. And why not stay warm in style, by representing the United Federation of Planets?
As a peacekeeping force founded in 2161, the Federation is a key part of the Star Trek mythos; it’s represented on this acrylic hat by the UFP insignia, as issued by the Chamber of the President. And it’s brought bang up to date with the colour scheme and delta-shapes repeated pattern from Star Trek Discovery.
Star Trek Discovery: Season 3 DVD / Blu-ray
The third season of this iteration of Star Trek was a huge leap for the franchise – and for the crew of the USS Discovery, who found themselves in the far future, in a universe seemingly without the Federation. It’s also the furthest into the future Star Trek has ever voyaged, and, thanks to the simultaneous explosion of Starfleet’s warp drives across the galaxies, it looks a bleak place to live.
We meet new friends like Cleveland “Book” Booker (David Ajala) and Adira (Blu del Barrio), as well as plenty of antagonists; namely, Osyraa (Janet Kidder) and the Emerald Chain.
All 13 episodes, from the book-ending ‘That Hope is You: Part 1‘ to ‘That Hope is You: Part 2’ are collected together on the Star Trek Discovery Season 3 DVD and Blu-ray sets.
Ships of Line scarf
Star Trek‘s ships have always been some of the iconic designs in TV history. The Star Trek shop’s 100% pure silk scarf includes a whole range of gorgeous starships from various Trek series.
The scarf includes: the Enterprise-D, which was seen throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation then the 1994 Generations movie; the USS Voyager (from the 1995- 2001 programme of the same name); Star Trek: Enterprise‘s NX-01; and the USS Stargazer and Nebula Class, both from The Next Generation.
The recipient of this stunning scarf can appreciate all those ships in detail, thanks to the fine digital printing method the Star Trek shop uses to achieve such intricacies.
Star Trek The Official Starships Collection: NCC-1701 box set
Of course, there’s only one ship we all think about when we talk of Star Trek: the Enterprise itself. But there are actually numerous variations, used in different shows, with each an homage to the initial Enterprise NCC-1701 from Star Trek: The Original Series (1966- 69.)
This set of three Enterprise models collects together the NCC-1701-C and NCC-1701-D (both from The Next Generation), and NCC-1701-E (from the films, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis) starships. They’re made by our pals at Hero Collector, Eaglemoss – a company best known for its high-quality models.
Star Trek – The Original Series: A Celebration
But Eaglemoss doesn’t just do models. Hero Collector has expanded its book range, in order to tell the behind-the-scenes stories of some of our favourite franchises. There’s a lot of great stuff out right now, but chief among them is The Original Series: A Celebration.
This is perhaps the definitive guide to the foundations of Star Trek. Its impressive 262 pages nonetheless belies the huge amount of information it contains. Discover more about the cast, characters, and crew; peer behind the curtain to learn about the art, VFX, and music departments; and find out about key episodes like Mirror, Mirror. There are even new interviews and never-before-seen sketches.
If you’re looking for a companion piece, Hero Collector has also released a similarly-extensive hardback in its own Star Trek shop, titled Star Trek – Voyager: A Celebration.
Star Trek Folding Umbrella
But what if you’re not sure which version of Star Trek your loved ones prefer? You could opt for our Star Trek shop’s bright, multi-coloured umbrella, which uses symbols that originated in The Original Series but are the foundation for subsequent versions.
At the touch of a button on its rubber-coated handle, the canopy expands to show off the three main insignias – Science, Engineering, and Command – emblazoned on panels in their best-known respective colours. Then just press that button again to compress the 98cm canopy.
It stores inside a specially-designed sleeve so the recipient can carry it around with them, ready for a rainy day.
Star Trek stamps from the Royal Mail
Similarly spanning numerous incarnations of Star Trek, the Royal Mail’s stamp collection features a range of instantly-recognisable faces like Kathryn Janeway (Voyager), Jonathan Archer (Enterprise), Spock (The Original Series), Gabriel Lorca (Discovery), and Benjamin Sisko (Deep Space Nine.)
Not only that, but the sets cover the films, including the so-called Kelvin timeline too, i.e. those directed by JJ Abrams, represented by a number of characters like Carol Marcus, Krall, and Simon Pegg’s incarnation of Scotty.
There are various options from the Royal Mail, but we particularly like the Ultimate Souvenir, which forms a beautiful keepsake.
Star Trek: The Original Series Christmas scarf
If these ideas aren’t festive enough, might we suggest the Star Trek shop’s uniquely-designed Christmas Scarf instead?
Don’t worry, it’s not like those garish festive sweaters that are begrudgingly worn once then never again. It’s a more subtle, eye-pleasing pattern that incorporates some Christmas elements but keeps the Star Trek iconography front and centre. That includes Christmas trees alongside the familiar delta-shape emblem, snowflakes, and the synonymous missive: “To Boldly Go”!
So which Trek goodies are you buying this year from the Star Trek shop? And enough about other people: what do you want for Christmas?
