How to sneak Doctor Who cosplay onto BBC News

October 22, 2020 by Alex Skerratt 1 Comment

Television news isn’t the happiest programme right now, but thank goodness we have some Doctor Who cosplay items to brighten our days. All praise to the Great One!

Alas, BBC News has yet to reach out for an exclusive Lovarzi interview (Laura Kuenssberg – call us.) But from time to time, Doctor Who fans are summoned onto the programme to discuss their specialist subjects. And when this happens, they’re occasionally tempted to sneak a piece of Doctor Who cosplay into the proceedings. And who can blame them?

This was certainly true for cyber researcher Professor Danny Dresner (no, not that kind of cyber.) He was summoned before the cameras to discuss the hacking of Ashley Maddison, a company that billed itself as enabling extramarital affairs. Its data had been breached by a group known as The Impact Team, and Professor Danny was invited onto BBC News to comment on the matter.

Now, it may sound like a plot worthy of our favourite science fiction show, so we’re pleased to see that Professor Danny dressed for the occasion, donning Lovarzi’s very own Seventh Doctor Paisely scarf as a cravat.

I wore my @4SylvesterMcCoy scarf (@Lovarzi) as a cravat when commenting on the notorious Ashley Madison hack. One enquirer wanted to know if I was the 'Professor of Rakish Behaviour'?🙈 https://t.co/MfW1kEjIks pic.twitter.com/Th8nDTZQhY

Indeed, Danny is becoming something of a Doctor Who cosplay influencer, as one of his subsequent appearances shows…

Here, Professor Danny appears to be confirming President Trump’s imminent release from hospital. And no, he’s not in Henry van Statten’s museum (you can tell by the wallpaper) but eagle-eyed viewers may spot a couple of familiar items on display in his Whovian den, including the Seventh Doctor jumper no less.

However, Professor Danny is not alone in smuggling Doctor Who cosplay items onto BBC News. John Collier also appeared on the programme in his capacity as the Director of Teaching and Learning at the Britannia Teaching School Alliance, and chose to wear our very own Fourth Doctor tie…

Undoubtedly, these Doctor Who cosplay pieces are scattered throughout time and space, like a bad wolf. Thank you Professor Danny and John Collier for promoting an excellent cause.

But we need to up the ante. We wonder how BBC News would feel about the appearance of the Sixth Doctor’s jacket? Or even Adric’s pyjamas? Start raiding the TARDIS wardrobe, interviewees.

Have you ever appeared on TV wearing a piece of Lovarzi? If so, be sure to drop us a line and send us your photos.

And for all-things cosplay, stop by the Lovarzi shop and take a look around.
