The Sixth and Tenth Doctors take on the Weeping Angels in a brand new adventure from Big Finish.
Could this be one of the ultimate cross-overs? Big Finish’s latest announcement sees the Classic series collide with the modern as Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor unites with the Tenth to take on one of Doctor Who‘s most popular villains – the Weeping Angels.
Titled ‘Wink,’ the story concludes Big Finish’s ‘Out of Time’ trilogy, in which the Tenth Doctor meets some of his former incarnations and deadliest enemies. Previous releases saw him team up with the Fourth Doctor against the Daleks, and with the Fifth Doctor against the Cybermen.
Here’s the synopsis for the latest release: “When the Sixth Doctor goes sight-seeing on Lucidus Silvara, he finds himself in a place where nothing is visible at all… only all-encompassing light! The Tenth Doctor is drawn in by a temporal anomaly, and the two Doctors meet a species with no sense of sight, living in a city surrounded by Weeping Angels.
“To save a civilisation, the Doctors must keep their eyes on the Angels. Don’t blink. Don’t even wink…”
Producer David Richardson said: “The ‘Out of Time’ series has been about wish fulfilment for us all on the productions. Putting the Tenth Doctor with past incarnations to battle the most loved monsters, what could be better than that?
“And with Wink it’s the turn of the adorable Ol’ Sixie, taking on the Weeping Angels – and this time the stone terrors are on an alien world in the future.
“It was especially lovely to hear David Tennant tell Colin Baker what a privilege it had been to record with him. ‘Wink’ is, in every way, a story made out of love for Doctor Who.”
Originally introduced in 2007, the Weeping Angels have become a firm Doctor Who staple, and most recently returned to our screens in 2021’s ‘Flux’ plot arc, which (spoiler alert) saw the Thirteenth Doctor momentarily turned into a Weeping Angel herself, in a cliffhanger that stunned many. They were originally created by showrunner Steven Moffat for the Series Three episode ‘Blink,’ which became something of an instant classic.
The Sixth Doctor, meanwhile, has enjoyed something of a renaissance during his time with Big Finish, who have greatly expanded his brief TV tenure and given his incarnation the development he didn’t have time to achieve on-screen.
And if you’re looking forward to hearing him take on the Weeping Angels, you won’t have too long to wait. ‘Wink’ is set for release in July 2022, and is now available to pre-order as a digital download and on CD.
