Ready for new Doctor Who? The latest series premieres this Halloween.
Those waiting for new Doctor Who had a bit of a shock over the weekend, as the programme’s social media channels all but disappeared from time and space. Its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts were all seemingly deleted, and its YouTube channel was left with zero content. The final Twitter post was a cryptic one, simply asking, “++ —/CAN YOU HEAR ME?/ —++”
Of course, this was all part of the build-up for the new Doctor Who series which, a few days later, was revealed to be Doctor Who: Flux – a six part adventure that is scheduled to begin on Halloween. A brief teaser trailer was included with the reveal, in which the Doctor warned that the Flux was coming and that it was bringing with it Sontarans, Weeping Angels, and creatures known as the Ravagers.
A previous teaser showing a spaceship over the Liverpool docks had already hinted that the Sontarans might be returning for the new Doctor Who series. It remains to be seen if any other classic monsters will be making an appearance, whilst the identity of another baddie has yet to be confirmed.
The new Doctor Who series will be Jodie Whittaker’s final one at the helm of the TARDIS. This six part story will be followed by three specials which will air throughout 2022, with the Thirteenth Doctor regenerating in the final instalment. The show will then move towards its 60th anniversary under the guidance of new showrunner Russell T Davies, who will also be casting the Fourteenth Doctor.
