Tom Baker’s penultimate series, Doctor Who Season 17, is on its way to Blu-ray.
Doctor Who Season 17 was first broadcast in 1979, and achieved some of the highest viewing figures in the series’ history – mainly because ITV was on strike, but also because of the Fourth Doctor’s popularity, and the razor sharp scripts from writer Douglas Adams.
Doctor Who Season 17 is also infamous for having the series’ only unfinished serial, ‘Shada,’ which was cancelled midway through production due to strikes at the BBC. The story was animated for release in 2017 using existing footage and newly-recorded dialogue. The new Blu-ray version will feature enhanced animation which was been specially-prepared for this release.
Moreover, Doctor Who Season 17 contains the Douglas Adams story ‘City of Death,’ which is frequently cited as one of the most popular in Doctor Who history.
Of course, with this being a Blu-ray release, the box set will contain a slew of extra features, including new making-of documentaries for ‘Destiny of the Daleks’ and ‘The Creature from the Pit,’ a candid interview with Tom Baker, a tribute to Douglas Adams, updated special effects in ‘Nightmare of Eden,’ and lots more.
